 The IELTS test is divided into four sections i.e. reading, listening, writing and speaking.
IELTS Reading Section:
The IELTS test reading section is of about one hour duration and is divided into three sections containing 40 questions in total. Generally the question types are related to multiple-choice questions, fill in the blanks, summary completion, match the headings and yes/ no / not given.
The reading extract is generally picked up from books, newspapers or journals. No sort of special knowledge or preparation is required for the test. The reading passages for the academic and general training module are different.
IELTS Writing Section:
The listening section is of 60 minutes and is made up of two tasks. Writing task 1 for academic module consists of graphs, charts and diagrams etc. the candidate has to summarize the main points and write down the information in 150 words. The writing task one for the academic and general training modules is different. The writing task two is the same for both. The candidate will be asked to write his viewpoints on a particular topic in 250 words.
IELTS Speaking Section:
The speaking section for both the modules is the same. It is divided into three sections. The first section is the general introduction round. The next is the cue card round and the last is the follow up question round. The speaking section is usually of 30 minutes.
IELTS Listening Section:
The listening section is the same for the academic and the general training modules. It is divided into four sections and has 40 questions in total. The listening section is of 30 minutes and 10 minutes extra are given after the listening section is over to copy down the answers on the answer sheet.
The IELTS exam dates selected should be such that you get sufficient time to prepare for each of the above mentioned sections. Estimate your abilities related with each section and choose the IELTS exam dates accordingly.
